woven traditions

 photo blog-28_1.jpg

Modern Peruvian weavers are heirs to a long running pre-Hispanic tradition that was developed over every inch of
Peru.

The diversity, colour, creativity of Peruvian handicraft make it a fundamental activity not just to forge Peru’s identity
but also to ensure the survival of thousands of families and even entire communities.

This season KissinCussin draws inspiration from the artisan of Peruvian weaving. Combining the fabrications with
our signature bohemian styles and new season’s sixties mod shapes, we hope to have respectfully translated this folk
art tradition to the western fashion world.

boho beauty

One of our favourite ever KissinCussin prints....our Purple Boho Print for Spring 2012. Our choice of fabrication
for the boho print is Indian Viscose Rayon, giving each style a feeling of hippy freedom and remaining true to the
easy to wear KissinCussin style. This story of our LOLA collection is named after one our fav '60s icons "Twiggy"

barmer block printing

Ever since an inspiring trip to Rajasthan, India in January 2008 we have enjoyed using the craftsmanship of the Artisan’s in our KissinCussin designs.

This year’s LOLA collection celebrates the work of Barmer block printers in two of our stand out Spring prints.

Block printing is the main industry for fashion craft in the north state of Rajasthan and the sleepy desert town of Barmer is surprisingly the centre of this industry. Feeling a mixture of taking a step back in time to life BC and entering a desert scene of George Lucas’ Star Wars film, visiting Barmer was enchanting … mystifying … a romantic trip to another pace of life to discover a delicate craft whose origins date back to the year 220.

For Spring 2012 we have used a Barmer block print on body conscious Jersey fabric, the two tone block print with off white detail on a teal coloured base. In contrast we have used the same print on a billowing, elegant Silk Crepe fabric with a subtle cream detail on an off white base.

Lionel Wendt

We would like to share with you Sri Lankan photographer Lionel Wendt. Particularly influenced by surrealism, Wendt experimented with various techniques and processes including montage and solarisation. His captivating nudes herald a large part of his impressive portfolio and his male subjects were his greater muse, capturing them with strength yet an element of softness in their moment creating a smooth balance in his work. We love this one of a Tamil Sri Lankan girl, her innocence expressed in her casual pose with light embracing her modesty. Enjoy xx

sexy sixties screen sirens

As we launch our Spring Summer 2012 LOLA collection we would like to share with you the muse who inspired KissinCussin this season.
LOLA is a celebration of the '60s with pretty and demure shifts, swing shape and short hemlines as well as the androgynous hippie look of the later years of the era with lounging pantsuit, billowing easy to wear fabrics and Indian prints.
Each story is dedicated to a Sexy Sixties Screen Siren. We have the very chic "Twiggy" with a hint of cheekiness, the foxy futuristic adventurer "Barbarella", the sophisticated and fashion savvy "Edie" and the provocative "Brigitte" femme de fatale.
Please visit www.kissincussin.com.au and indulge in our LOLA collection xx

full moon celebrations

To celebrate the full moon here in Sri Lanka, the whole community gets involved in the local Peraherra and this month it is in our neighbour town Dondra. I loved the majestic costumes of these men and their dignified energy xx

b-b-b-b-brigitte

When choosing the beauty muse for our Spring Summer 2012 LOLA campaign, it was the french sex kitten of the sixties Brigitte Bardot who won over our KissinCussin hearts. Bardot's irresistible bombshell looks hail from a seductive grin and bedroom eyes which are framed by a head of messy blonde locks, and rest on impossibly long legs and a body of va-va-voom curves. Ouch! And what's more this goddess has dedicated most of her life to animal rights activism and established the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the Welfare and Protection of Animals, which was just the cherry on top in making her the leading feminine heroine of our LOLA collection ... the new season launches next month. Stay tuned for more xx
